In Commemoration of Cadet Jacob David Bower

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today issued a proclamation ordering all U.S. and State flags displayed at State facilities be lowered to half-staff from dawn to dusk on Friday, July 29, 2011, the day of services for West Point Cadet Jacob David Bower, of Fairmont, W.Va.
Bower excelled academically and as an athlete at East Fairmont High School. Upon graduation, he was accepted as a cadet in the Class of 2015 at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He aspired to become a military officer and an orthopedic surgeon. Bower died unexpectedly on July 21, 2011 while participating in Academy field training near Camp Buckner, NY.
“We have lost an ambitious young man and an exemplary student and athlete,” said Gov. Tomblin. “Joanne and I extend our condolences to the family, friends and all who knew Cadet Jacob David Bower.”
He is survived by his parents, Dean and Ginger; his brother, Ryan; his grandparents, Lawrence and Jo Ann; his grandmother, Nellie; his great-grandmother, Viola; his girlfriend Emily and an extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins.
