Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery to Hold Honor Guard Tryouts March 27

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance (WVDVA) today announced the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery will hold Honor Guard Tryouts on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10 am.
Members of the Honor Guard will be responsible for providing funeral honors for fallen military veterans whose services are held at the new cemetery. Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery Honor Guard volunteers must be honorably discharged veterans, reservists or guardsmen residing in Kanawha County or the adjacent counties of Roane, Clay, Nicholas, Fayette, Raleigh, Boone, Lincoln, Putnam or Jackson.
Honor Guard duties will commence immediately after the cemetery’s official opening, projected to take place in early summer.
Individuals planning to participate should have with them on the day of tryouts a copy of their DD-214 or Certificate of Honorable Discharge. Also note that if there is inclement weather on the scheduled date of March 27, tryouts will be moved to Friday, March 30.
