Remember 9/11, Ten Years Later

As We Remember - 9/11

May we pay tribute and honor to the Veterans, Military Personnel and First Responders as we reach the Tenth Anniversary of the tragic 9/11 events and the war that has followed. Many events are featured in commemorance of that day and the events that followed.

The Governor of the State of West Virginia, the Kanawha County Commission, and the City of Charleston invite you to attend a joint ceremony for the
10 Year Rememberance of 9/11 on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Haddad Riverfront Park, Charleston, WV - 8:30 A.M.

God Bless America Rally - Expressing Gratitude for the Blessings on America and Extending Thanks to the Heroes of America.
On the 10th anniversary of the attacks, 9/11 we remember. Charleston Civic Center - 6:00 PM.

                                                September is National Preparedness Month

USA Cares
- USA Cares exists to help bear the burdens of service by providing post-9/11 military families with financial and advocacy support in their time of need. Assistance is provided to all branches of service, all components, all ranks while protecting the privacy and dignity of those military families and veterans who request our help.

Challenge.gov - The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is recognizing the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 by issuing a challenge to organizations to bring Americans together in the same spirit of compassion, unity, and service as so many have after the attacks.

The Wounded Warrior Project -  Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP) exists to honor and empower wounded warriors who incurred service-connected injures on or after September 11, 2001. On that date, America watched in horror as approximately 3,000 people died including hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers.

Wheeling Movie Production - "Doughboy" is fiction but features documentary-style footage of real veterans sharing their thoughts on patriotism, freedom and the attitudes of young people today. Executive producer, Kristin Seibert, a Wheeling native hopes the film will begin conversations between generations, particularly with children or teenagers who don't remember or understand the significance of terrorist attacks and with nonmilitary families who might not appreciate the sacrafice U.S. service members make.

What is the value of attending commemorative events?

Rituals, such as the 10th anniversary commemorative events give us an opportunity to come together as community members. Being with others is what researchers tell us is THE most important thing we can do after a trauma; connect with others who care about what happened and understand and accept our responses. So, this coming together can have a healing quality. It allows us to move forward and adapt knowing that despite these bad events, we are still a community and can adapt, hopefully for the better, to keep our communities tight and strong.
